Susteinable

Development

The largest state in Brazil within the largest preserved forest on the planet. Amazonas has a very rich heritage in biodiversity, mineral resources and water resources. Scientific analysis and studies prove that the economic model of the Manaus Free Trade Zone contributes to the maintenance of this biodiversity. The forests of the Amazon region concentrate 60% of all forms of life on the planet, but only 30% are known to science, proving their enormous importance for medicine, agriculture and a range of industrial processes that today can be carried out through biological processes.

In Amazonas, economic development is accompanied by social development and environmental preservation. The State Government supports the strengthening of productive chains of great economic value for the region with actions such as encouraging community-based tourism and encouraging sustainable management of pirarucu and turtles in Conservation Units (UC).

The State Government also invests in attracting national and international partnerships. From January to November 2019, more than R $ 42 million was raised for projects such as strengthening water resources systems in the region and implementing the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR).

The Sustainable Landscapes of the Amazon project is an excellent example. It has as its main guideline the integrated vision of the biome throughout the outlines between Brazil, Colombia and Peru. It is a regional Amazon Sustainable Landscapes (ASL) program financed by the Global Environment Fund and coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment (MMA). The World Bank is the implementing agency and CI is the executor.

Agility and responsibility in licensing and environmental inspection.

IPAAM - Amazonas Environmental Protection Institute is developing new computerized systems for environmental monitoring, licensing and inspection. The work has been carried out through a Technical Cooperation Agreement with the Federal University of Lavras (Ufla), an institution of reference in environmental management. These systems have already been implemented in Pará and the platforms have been shared among the states with the necessary adaptations and improvements to meet the needs of Amazonas.

In this first phase, these systems are already generating greater agility since the establishment of deadlines, the delivery dates of the planned licensing and a series of other internal information under the agency's control.

Among the new systems, the following stand out: Single Entry; Amateur Fishing Portfolio Issuance System; Demand Management; Geographic Information System (GIS); Online Inspection; Offline Inspection and the Fishing and Environmental Licensing Portfolio, which consists of requesting and issuing licenses that fall under the Declaration of Inexigibility (DI), in accordance with Law 3,785 of July 24, 2012. The System will allow the applicant to perform the process in an electronic and self-declaratory manner, where applicable.

Amazonas Bioeconomy

Investment in Bioeconomy is an important key for Sustainable development. PARQUE FLORESTA is a proposal for the implementation of a Science and Technology Park in Alto Solimões, a border strip between Peru and Colombia, and which aims to encourage the development of the science, technology and innovation ecosystem in that region.

The Park will operate in a network format between three teaching and research institutions: the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam) as the headquarters of the Park in Benjamin Constant; the University of the State of Amazonas (UEA) and the Federal Institute of Amazonas (Ifam ), both from Tabatinga. The Park aims to be an environment conducive to the development of technological solutions, safeguarding 4 specific premises: Information and Communication Technology; Biodiversity; Traditional Knowledge and Social Technology.

The proximity to the forest, to the transnational frontier and to the traditional knowledge of the region provides a strong relationship of scientific and technological development with the knowledge and wealth of the forest. In this way Parque Floresta will become a Park capable of stimulating the production of innovative solutions, whose inspiration will be the social and biologic diversity that surrounds it.

The sustainable use of biodiversity will directly impact the creation of new businesses with the development and commercialization of high added value products based on applied research and the strong interaction with companies and other teaching and research institutes in the region.
